Feel Radiant with our Underfloor heating

underfloor-heating-guide

Radiant floor heating is every bit as wonderful as it sounds. Comfortable, sustainable and cost effective.  But as with every new heating development, it’s important to know if it’s going to suit you and your home.  As well as the many advantages, you’re going to want to know the possible drawbacks or downsides if you’re thinking about switching- so we’ve put together a comprehensive guide for just that purpose.  Everything you could wish to know about Radiant underfloor heating at your fingertips.  You’re always in safe hands with AKA.

What is underfloor heating?

Well, as its name suggests, the AKA system pumps heat through pipes under the floor instead of heating up radiators, which results in a cosy, even heat around the whole room, or house.  There are basically two types of underfloor heating, one uses water pumped through underfloor pipes from the boiler, and the electric system gets the same results by sending electricity through cables.

The warm water system is suitable for all project types including new builds and renovations. Running costs with this system are much lower than the electric systems but installation costs are higher. The electric system is often used in smaller rooms or spaces, bathrooms or single bedrooms, because running costs are higher, but it can be installed in just a few hours.

Completion times for your installation will depend on the size of your project and the type of system you’ve chosen.

AKA underfloor heating systems V radiators

Central heating is now the most common form of heating in Britain. It works by pumping warm water from the boiler to the radiators. It works well if the radiators are the right size for all the rooms in your house, but you can discover that one side of the room is colder than the other. This means increasing the temperature of the thermostat or an extra fire or huddling up out of the cold spot in a big jumper.

AKA is the solution

All round Comfort is top of the list when it comes to heating your home and our underfloor heating systems are second to none. Whichever system you choose you’ll find the same results…warm air which circulates evenly, rising to envelop the whole room or house and you can sit wherever you please, no more cold spots. Under floor heating is also hyper efficient because radiators need to be set at a much higher temperature 50 – 70 degrees normally, whereas UFH works most efficiently at around 30 degrees. It’s also doubly efficient if you install a heat pump at the same time. It’s a win – win, lower energy costs are good for you and the planet.  Having said that, its possible to use radiators in tandem with your UFH.  Our specialist heating technicians are on hand to make sure you end up with the perfect system for your project.

Underfloor heating, the advantages:

  1. Flexibility.  Our UFH systems are suitable for any type of property.

Houses, big or small, new builds, renovations and extensions and it’s suitable for most floor types too.  Wood, Lino and tiling etc.

  • Energy efficiency.   Warm water UFH is 25% more efficient than radiators and 40% if you install a heat pump to run in tandem.  So, you’ll be heating a larger area at a lower temperature and more efficiently too.

Your bills will be smaller and so will your carbon footprint.  Good news for the planet and your pocket.

  • Maintenance.  One of the best things about UFH is that, once it’s in

It’s in.   Smart thermostats control the temperature and the heating programmes and that’s it.   All our systems come with a warranty and lifetime technical support

  • Style. UFH is invisible so no ugly radiators around the walls and you can place your furniture exactly where you please.  Rooms feel more spacious.

Purchase Cost.

The costs around the buying and installing of UFH will depend on a number of factors, the size of the rooms, the type of house or new build and which system you choose, a water or electric one. Fortunately, our team of experts will be there to advise you every step of the way. Once you have bought your system, you will need to think about installing it. You’ll need a qualified heating and plumbing engineer and the costs will vary but, once again, our team will be on hand with a list of expert installers near you.

We’re sure that you will come to think of your UFH system as an investment.  It will   add value to your property, and you’ll reap the benefits as each year goes  by and you notice how much money you’re saving on heating costs.
